[Colonel Gordon to Adjutant, York and Lancaster Regiment.]

DOVER, 20th January, 1885.

I beg to report for the information of the Officer Commanding 1st York and Lancaster Regiment, that it has been intimated to me from the War Office,

that after rejoining my Regiment I am entitled to claim retirement with a

peusion of £300 a year, under clause B., article 972, of the Royal Warrant of 1882.

I beg also to report that I have received an offer of a civil situation under the Colonial Office (Superintendent of Victoria Gaol) the pay of which is some- what under £700 a year.

I beg to request the Officer Commanding the 1st York & Lancaster Regt., will be so good as to apply for information, whether in the event of my so retir- ing and accepting such civil situation, I should be allowed to receive my retired pay in full, under the provisions of Art, 990 of the Royal Warrant.
